Homeless dogs have been a very serious problem that has grown out of proportion over the last 20 or 30 years. However, at the same time we could observe one positive change in the attitude towards such animals: the growth of volunteer work and people who offer their help within the breed rescue movement. Breed rescue groups is a very positive initiative of people who have a passion to help rescue homeless animals. These groups are organized so that they work with one breed only. Some of these groups are really small, made up of only one or two people, whose task is to find homes for homeless dogs, whereas others are large nonprofit organizations that have their own sheltering facilities. Some groups operate by referral only: they have a list of dogs that are in private homes and animals shelters and recommend potential adopters. Their mission is to ensure that a homeless dog will only go to a family or individual that will really take care of him.
Some of these volunteers adopt homeless animals themselves. They go to shelters and individuals and adopt dogs in order to take care of them. Breed-rescue organizations are really varied so it is virtually impossible to describe a “standard” organization and how they operate. Because it is volunteer work, there are many ways in which it can be done, and all of them are welcome when it comes to rescuing homeless animals. However, if we had to describe the most typical type of breed-rescue group, it would be a group consisting of 2-4 people who work together in order to find homes for dogs of a particular breed. For some time these people will take care of the animals themselves to ensure that the dogs have been examined by a veterinarian, have been given all the necessary vaccinations, and have been spayed or neutered. When it comes to the adoption fees, the veterinary care expenses will be included so that the volunteers do not have to incur them.
This is all a charity work which becomes their passion and a way of life. Adrenaline, sense of satisfaction, the need to bring help to those who need it and their love of animals help them to face everyday problems and difficulties in order to cerate a real home for these animals. This is an admirable, generous attitude that should serve as an example for others to follow. In the modern world in which we have to deal with lack of time, constant haste and pursuit of money, there is less and less room for such behaviour as it is unprofitable. However, its good that there are still people who want the animals to be happy.
Therefore, we recommend that you help such organizations from time to time, for instance by sending them animal food, medicines, dog accessories, or providing medical and training help. The volunteers have to deal with numerous obstacles on their own, so it’s worth helping them and at the same time doing something good for the animals. Information about such organizations and groups can easily be found on the Internet as they all have their websites so that they could reach possibly greatest number of people in order to find new homes for their animals.
